Blueskyfrog: Free SMS TXT Messages to Mobile Phones in Australia

With the demise of the free SMS / TXT service provided by Intazaar, several Australian readers of my blogs have asked which service I can recommend to replace it. I’ve tried quite a few including Motocrew, SMS Pup, but the best one was clearly Youtext.com.au but it doesn’t work anymore either :-(

One of my readers Henry suggested BlueSkyfrog which has a 5 free SMS per day deal if you agree to get their email newsletter once a month.

When you signup BlueSkyfrog will send 2 separate confirmation codes to your mobile and email which you need to enter before it works. One bonus is that when you send someone a free SMS it appears to come from your phone so they can reply directly to you.
The character limit is 130 because they add this text at the end of each SMS “(free SMS @ blueskyfrog.com)”

To date I haven’t had any problem sending SMS’s to any Australian mobile network - they usually arrive at the destination within a few seconds, and there is no specific per day limit I can find.

Like Intazaar, Youtext shows your number as the sender when you send the SMS so any replies will go to your mobile phone, but unlike Intazaar only 140 characters are available for your message. The rest of the characters are reserved for a short promotional message from Youtext.

    I’ve found there is a limit on youtext though, to specific numbers. They call it “sms spam”, it basically only lets you send 5 sms to a specific number a day.

    EDITOR: thanks for spotting that Jono, I hadn’t sent that many txts to one person in the same day to be able to spot the limitation.

    EDITOR: that wont work. To register for Youtext you have to tell them your Australian mobile number, they send you an SMS with an activation code to that number and you have to enter the activation code into the Youtext website

    i registered with all the correct details, my mob no. is australian yet i still haven’t received my sms confirmation, how long does it usually take?

    EDITOR: It took barely a few seconds to register my own mobile and other family members mobiles.

    If it didn’t work for you i’d suggest emailing them to find out

    Hi there,

    I’ve used alot of the freesms sites and they all have their pros & cons… i am currently testing out SMSFUN so far seems to be good, i switch between it and youtext

    I used to use www.youtext.com.au all the time but, yeah it’s broken.

    Now I use www.BlueSkyFrog.com it’s for Australia/New Zealand, and you can message overseas, all free, the only thing is you can only have 5 messages per day.

    (Also, I know that blueskyfrog is totally free, because I haven’t had credit for months, and it’s always worked. Really quick sending too, I used to find www.youtext.com.au took a while.)

    It gives you 10 free texts at a maximum of 160 characters a day and plus it shows your number like a normal text instead of the ones like blueskyfrog.com that after every sms this follows - (Free SMS@Blueskyfrog.com). Yakedi looks like your actually using your phone
